About

Seoul Closing Bell is a daily English-language briefing on the Korean stock market — KOSPI, KOSDAQ, and the stocks that move them — written and published from Seoul shortly after the market closes.

Why this site exists

Korea is home to some of the most important companies in the global technology supply chain — Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and hundreds of others — yet daily English-language coverage of the Korean market is remarkably thin. Most of what exists is either a one-line index summary on a global newswire or machine-translated headlines with no context.

Seoul Closing Bell fills that gap: every trading day, we explain what happened, why it happened, and what to watch next — with first-hand data you will not find aggregated anywhere else in English, such as domestic investor deposit levels, margin loan balances, and daily foreign net-buying flows.

Who writes this

Seoul Closing Bell is written by Taewook Kim, a Seoul-based software developer and investor. The site is powered by SY Quant, a proprietary market-analysis pipeline he has built and operated since 2026. The pipeline collects and cross-verifies market data from multiple primary sources every day; the analysis and writing are produced with the assistance of AI tools and reviewed before publication. We are transparent about this process — see our Methodology page for full details.

What makes us different

  • First-hand data. Investor flows, deposit levels, and index data are collected directly from primary Korean sources and verified against exchange closing prices — not copied from other outlets.
  • From Seoul, after the close. Published on Korean market time, by someone who trades and lives in this market’s timezone.
  • A verifiable track record. Our analysis system’s calls are logged daily. We report what we got right and what we got wrong.
